Constitution

Article I – Name

Section 1. This Association shall be called the South Carolina Senior Women’s Golf Association.

Article II – Objects

Section 1. The objectives of the Association are to encourage friendly golf competition and good fellowship among senior players and to hold an Annual Championship and five other events throughout the calendar year.

Article III – Membership

Section 1. Any woman amateur golfer who has reached age 50, is a legal South Carolina resident for at least six months each year and holds a current USGA Handicap Card is eligible, subject to Membership Committee procedures. Six-month residents may play in one-day tournaments. Only full-time South Carolina residents may play in the Championship Tournament.

Section 2. Membership is limited to 400 members, excluding Honorary and Special Categories.

Section 3. Members in good standing for five years who can no longer compete may become Associate Members upon payment of annual dues. Associate membership includes social events but is non-voting.

Article IV – Dues

Section 1. Annual dues are fixed by the Board of Directors.

Section 2. Renewal notices are emailed by December 31 and dues are payable by February 28. The roster is updated beginning in March. Membership is required to participate in SCSWGA events.

Article V – Board of Directors

Section 1. Management is vested in a Board of up to 15 directors, including executive officers and designated chairpersons and members-at-large.

Section 2. The Board meets on the day preceding the annual meeting and at other times requested by the President or four Board members.

Section 3. Six Board members constitute a quorum.

Section 4. Unexpired Board terms are filled at the Board’s discretion.

Section 5. The Championship Tournament Chairman works closely with association leadership and may select a committee to help organize the two-day event.

Article VI – Officers

Section 1. Officers are President, President-Elect, Treasurer and Secretary, elected to two-year terms.

Section 2. The President presides at association and Board meetings and serves ex officio on all committees.

Section 3. The President-Elect performs presidential duties when requested, secures an invitation to host the Championship at least one year in advance and serves as Parliamentarian.

Section 4. The Secretary maintains complete meeting records and distributes minutes to Board members.

Section 5. The Treasurer receives and disburses funds and provides written financial reports.

Article VII – Meetings

Section 1. The annual business meeting and elections are held on the evening of the Championship qualifying day.

Section 2. The order of business is: minutes, reports of the President, Treasurer, Membership Committee and other committees, unfinished business, new business and elections.

Section 3. A majority of members participating in the Championship constitutes a quorum.

Article VIII – Nominations

Nominations are made by the Nominating Committee at least 15 days before the annual meeting. Incoming Board members serve two-year terms.

Article IX – Amendments

The Constitution may be amended or suspended at an annual meeting by a majority of votes cast with at least 10 days’ written notice, or by email ballot when a majority of returned ballots is favorable.

Article X – Dissolution

Upon dissolution, all association assets are distributed to qualifying charitable organizations described under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.

By-Laws

Section 1. The By-Laws may be amended or suspended by a two-thirds majority of votes cast at an Annual Meeting or by email ballot, provided at least 10 days’ written notice is given.
